Set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). A hot basket is essential for getting those crispy, caramelized edges. Spray a few pumps of air fryer (non-propellant) oil on them. *I use avocado or canola.*If you have the "ROAST" setting on your air fryer, use this!
air fryer spray (non propellant spray)
Place the radishes in a single layer in the basket or drawer(s). Air fry for 15 minutes.
At the 10-minute mark, give the basket a good shake. This ensures they brown evenly on all sides. *Check to see if the flowers are done (they may be done earlier. You will be able to put a fork through them.
Sprinkle the remaining half of the grated parmesan over the radishes.
Air fry for another 3-5 minutes. *If your radishes are large, this may take longer. You should be able to easily put a fork into the radish and the 'bite' should be gone.
Remove from the air fryer and immediately give them a squeeze of fresh lemon juice while they are still sizzling.
A generous squeeze of Fresh Lemon Juice: Brightens the whole dish.
Garnish with additional grated parmesan and parsley or green onion.
Don't have an air fryer? Oven Directions:
Preheat: Heat your oven to 400°F (204°C)
Prep: Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
Layer: Arrange your seasoned radishes in a single layer (flat-side down for the best sear)
Roast: Bake for 20–25 minutes, tossing them halfway through, until they are golden brown and a fork slides into the center with zero resistance.
Notes
*NOTE: Avocado Oil Spray: A quick spritz before cooking and halfway through cooking helps get that deep golden-brown "potato" look. You can use any oil spray that is non-propellant (*Do not use PAM or a similar product as it will harm the finish on the inside of the air fryer), but make sure it's for high heat- canola oil and avocado oil have a higher smoke point, so they are most suitable for cooking at high temps in the air fryer. You can use a spray bottle of regular oil as well.💡 A Note on Cooking Oils: I love using olive oil for tossing these radishes because it adds a wonderful savory depth. If you’re worried about smoke points in the air fryer, don’t be! At 375°F, olive oil is perfectly stable and safe.WW Points:Radishes are a non-starchy vegetable, which means they are 0 Weight Watchers points. Even with a spray of oil and a dusting of parmesan, a huge serving is only 2 points! You can reduce this recipe to 1 ww point by using fat-free Parmesan cheese. It’s a spectacular way to feel like you’re eating roasted potatoes without the "point guilt."Expert Recipe Tips:
Size Matters: Try to keep your radish halves uniform in size. This ensures they all finish cooking at the same time, so you don't end up with some mushy and some hard.
A Note on the Flowers: If you decide to cut a few of your radishes into flower shapes (which I highly recommend, as it adds variety to the dish), keep an eye on them and check them after 7 minutes ! Because the 'petals' are thinner, they will brown much faster than the halved radishes. One option is adding your 'flowers' to the air fryer during the last 5-7 minutes of cooking so they stay vibrant and pretty for the table. Or you could pull them out earlier. But even if they are a little more browned (as mine are), the raw radishes can give you the same visual impact when serving the dish.
The "Mellow" Secret: If you find radishes too spicy when raw, roasting them completely removes that "bite." They become sweet and mild—perfect for kids!
Pat Them Bone-Dry: Radishes are full of water. After washing, make sure you pat them completely dry with a paper towel. This is the secret to getting a crispy skin rather than a soggy one.
Cut Side Down: To get that professional "sear," place your radish halves cut-side down in the air fryer basket to start.
The "Hard Center" Fix: If your radishes are golden but still firm in the middle, turn off the air fryer and let them sit in the closed basket or drawer(s) for 5 minutes. The residual heat will "steam-seal" the centers to a creamy, potato-like texture without burning the outside.
Variations and Substitutions:
Herb Twist: Substitute the parsley for fresh dill or rosemary for a more "Old Fashioned" garden flavor.
Vegan Option: Omit the Parmesan or use a vegan nutritional yeast sprinkle for that same savory "umami" hit.
Spice it Up: Add a pinch of smoked paprika or red pepper flakes to the spice mix for a zesty "Swicy" profile.
Lemon-Butter Finish: If you aren't watching points closely, toss the finished radishes in a teaspoon of melted butter and lemon juice for a rich, bistro-style finish.
