Notes
Whipped Cream: *I also use a little of the light real whipped cream (in a spray bottle) because it's only 1 point for 4 tablespoon of this whipped cream and I love whipped cream! There are a couple of different brands you can buy that are only 1 point. Dairyland and Gay Lea are both brands that are WW friendly.
Expert Recipe Tips:
The "Straw & Bottle" Pitting Hack: To make this recipe quick, place a cherry on top of an empty glass bottle. Use a sturdy reusable straw to "pop" the pit through the center into the bottle. It's the fastest way to prep a big batch of fruit! *See July's newsletter for video!
Expert Tip: Choose Your Oats Wisely! For that spectacular chewy texture, I always recommend using Large Flake (Old Fashioned) Oats. They hold their shape overnight, giving you a satisfying breakfast that tastes just like a slice of cherry pie. If you only have quick oats on hand, just let them soak for 30 minutes instead of overnight to avoid a mushy texture! And use steel-cut oats for an even chewier texture!
The Cocoa Whisk: Cocoa powder can be clumpy! Whisk it into the milk and yogurt before adding the dry oats to ensure a smooth, velvety chocolate sauce.
The "Pinch" of Salt: A tiny bit of sea salt is the secret to making chocolate taste "chocolatier." It balances the tartness of the cherries and the bitterness of the cocoa perfectly.
The 1-Cup Rule: For the best flavor, use a full cup of cherries per jumbo portion. Mashing half of them releases the juices needed to hydrate the oats without needing extra syrup.
Serving Temperature: While these are designed to be eaten cold, you can pop the jar in the microwave for 30 seconds if you prefer a warm "pudding" style breakfast
Storage:
Fridge: Store in airtight jars for up to 5 days. This makes them the ultimate Sunday meal-prep for the work week!
Freezer: I do not recommend freezing overnight oats, as the texture of the yogurt and oats can become grainy and unappealing once thawed.
