Recently, when I went to make a recipe using Chocolate Cream Cheese, I realized that I had forgotten to buy it. And since I couldn’t go back to the grocery store, I decided to make my own.
This Chocolate Cream Cheese recipe has only 3 ingredients and is quick and easy! And my philosophy is that taking anything and making a chocolate version out of it is just a really good thing to do. And it's Weight Watchers friendly @ 2 WW points (per tbsp). It makes a great breakfast or snack spread!

If you can't find the Philadelphia chocolate cream cheese spread or don't want to run out to the grocery store to buy it, this chocolate flavored cream cheese spread is an excellent substitute!
My 3 Ingredient Homemade Chocolate Yogurt (shown below) is another great example of making something even better by adding chocolate. You can't even buy chocolate yogurt in any grocery stores where I live!
When I was looking for chocolate cream cheese recipes, they all had chocolate chips or powdered sugar and that's not what I wanted. I didn't want powdered sugar because it tastes too much like frosting. And I wanted something that used cocoa because it's easier and I didn't have to fuss around with melting chocolate chips.
💭Ways to use chocolate cream cheese spread
Not only is chocolate cream cheese great in other recipes, like my Gingerbread Fruit and Nut Cookie Wreath and Carrot Cake Dessert Pizza (shown) it makes a really great snack on its own~! You can also use it as a dessert dip with fresh fruit!
You can use this as you would a chocolate spread on toast, bagels, rice cakes, pancakes, French toast, graham crackers, fruit, and whatever else you like to put chocolate spread on!
🥘 Ingredients
- Cream cheese * I use low-fat
- Agave
- Unsweetened Cocoa powder
*See recipe card for quantities
📖Substitutions & Variations
- Agave: I use agave in this recipe instead of honey; I much prefer the taste. This natural sweetener is valued as a vegan alternative to honey and is touted for its low glycemic index. Although agave packs 20 calories per teaspoon, five more than granulated sugar, like honey, it’s sweeter than sugar, so you need less to achieve the same level of sweetness. You can substitute honey, but you'll need to use about double the amount.
- Cream Cheese: - you can use low-fat, fat-free or full-fat cream cheese.
- Cocoa - you can use any type of unsweetened cocoa powder (I just use the generic brand).

Not enough sweetener for that amount of cocoa powder for me. I put in about 5Tblsp of a combo of honey and maple syrup. It still wasn't very sweet. Perhaps less cocoa would have helped.
Terri Gilson
Did you try the agave? It's sweeter than honey and you can use less of it. That's why I like to use it. However, everyone has a different sweet level preference. I tend to prefer things a little less sweet. Hopefully you'll find your magic sweet spot! 🙂
Terri Gilson
I agree, Sharon! Having breakfast already made in the morning is THE BEST!
