    Just because something is easy, doesn't mean you don't need a recipe for it. I can't tell you how many times someone has said to me, "oh it's soo easy - just throw this together with that..." Right. I'll just file that away with the other 7 million ingredients and recipes I have floating around in my head. But seriously, this Skor Bar Dessert is just that- so easy that you don't even need a recipe. But I'm going to give you one anyway.

    This NO BAKE Dessert is layers of cake, pudding, Skor bars and whipped cream, making it the perfect last minute dessert for any gathering! I first tried this dessert at a work potluck about 20 years ago. And although I was never a huge fan of the chocolate bar itself, put it in a dessert with more chocolate and whipped cream and WOW! Skor bars are a game changer. Softening up just enough that the toffee flavor melds with the other chocolatey ingredients, they add a welcome contrast to a dessert with a smoother, trifle- like consistency.

    🥘 Ingredients

    I recall asking my coworker for this recipe and she did just that - told me how easy it was. And since I obviously couldn't remember the ingredients from that long ago, I guessed. I knew it contained chocolate things, whipped cream and Skor bars, of course. But trust me, this is a really good guess. In fact, it's one of the most delicious guesses I've ever created! And since I don’t want you to have to guess, I'm writing the recipe here.

    For this recipe you'll need:

    • Skor chocolate bars (or Heath bars)
    • whipped cream
    • chocolate cake
    • chocolate pudding
    • milk
    • granulated white sugar
    • cream cheese

    If there is one thing I've learned in my culinary life, it’s that you cannot rely on memory for recipes. That is, if you want to produce consistent results. Even if I create a recipe one week and post it the next, I cannot remember exactly how much of what ingredient I used. I need to record it as I go, along with the variations I’ve made while testing it. Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way.

    🔪Instructions

    1. Break up chocolate cake and add to the bottom of a 9X13 pan. Beat milk and chocolate pudding powder together until set. Then beat softened cream cheese and chocolate pudding together. Spread cream cheese pudding mixture evenly over broken cake bits.
    2. Sprinkle 6 broken/chopped Skor bars over pudding/cream cheese layer. Beat whipping cream to soft peaks and add white granulated sugar. Beat to stiff peaks. Spread whipped cream over Skor layer.
    3. Garnish: Crush up 2 more score bars (using the same method as above) and sprinkle over whipped cream. * do this closer to serving so it has more crunchiness. Refrigerate for minimum of 6 hours or overnight. Serve.

    📖 Variations & Substitutions

    • Cake: If  you can't find a pre-made loaf cake in the bakery section of your grocery store, you can use a defrosted frozen McCain's deep and delicious cake with the frosting scraped off. OR buy chocolate cupcakes and break them up. 
    • Skor Bars: Heath Bars can be substituted for Skor bars - see explanation about the differences below
    • Chocolate pudding: If you want to make this even faster, use the pre-made snack puddings (snack packs) * you'll need 8 of them (2 packs)

    💭 Top Tip

    Use a hammer to break up the Skor bars into small pieces(*I put the chocolate bars in a ziplock and hit them with a hammer to break them into pieces.) You can also use a rolling pin and roll in back and forth over the chocolate bars.

    💭Storing

    This Skor bar cheesecake dessert needs to be made at least 6 hours in advance (although overnight is ideal), so the chocolate bars have a chance to soften up. However, you can make it 24 hours in advance. *Just add the topping right before serving it.  It can also be stored for up to 2 days in the fridge after you make it (just check the expiry on your whipped cream, milk and cream cheese to ensure they coincide).

    👪 Serving Size

    This Skor bar recipe is ideal for a potluck because it serves 16. However, if you want more or less, you can adjust the number of servings by clicking on the blue servings and the amounts will adjust accordingly. 

    ❔ Frequently Asked Questions

    What is the difference between Skor Bars and Heath Bars?

    There is a slight difference in taste is a candy bar (or ‘chocolate bar’ as we prefer to call them in Canada) produced by The Hershey Company. The Skor bar consists of a thin slab of butter toffee covered in a milk chocolate coating, but is slightly thinner than the Heath bar. The Heath bar calls itself an “English Toffee Bar" while the Skor is more of a “Crisp Butter Toffee.”

    Why is it called a Skor bar?

    "Skör" is Swedish (adjective) for "brittle" and the crown that appears in the product's logo is identical to that found in the Swedish national emblem of Tre Kronor (Three crowns).

    Heads up: This recipe has a minimum refrigeration time of 6 hours!

    • 300 g chocolate loaf cake or pound cake 
      *f you can't find this, you can use a defrosted frozen McCain's deep and delicious cake with the frosting scraped off or buy chocolate cupcakes and break them up* I always have leftover cake bits in my freezer so that's what I use
    • 8 whole Skor candy bars, (reserve 2 for garnish) *Can substitute Heath bars (see NOTES)
    • 3 cups whipping cream
    • 3 tablespoon white granulated sugar
    • 2 - 40 g boxes of instant chocolate pudding
    • 4 cups milk 1 or 2%
    • 8 oz pkg of cream cheese softened

    Garnish

        Yes, I can relate about keeping good notes when developing or creating new recipes, Terri. I learned this in my competition days.         I always remember Skor bars in the grocery store, but I also never really liked them on their own. Always in something like a Blizzard. What a great idea for a dessert, I can see this being devoured at Thanksgiving!

        4 Cups of Milk? For 80g Pudding Box?
        Or just make Pudding according to the box instructions? The box says 2 cups of milk. And do we blend the pudding until it sets? Or put in the fridge to set? Seems too runny with that much milk to set?!? 🤷🏻‍♀️ HELP!
