A few weeks ago my sweet daughter insisted on treating me to a Starbucks drink. So I decided to treat myself and really indulge. Since I LOVE pistachio, I couldn't resist the Pistachio Frappuccino. And WOW- it was the best drink I've had in a long time! In fact, it was sooo delicious that I just had to create a copycat.

This Starbucks Copycat Pistachio Frappuccino tastes like the original, but with more pistachio flavor. In the original Starbucks drink, I found the pistachio was more of an aftertaste that actually left me yearning for more pistachio! So, I have created a version that's even more "pistachioey".

This homemade Starbucks Frappuccino is also super quick and easy to make, it only has a few ingredients and you don't need any special syrups.

🥘Ingredients

This Starbucks frappe recipe is made with just a few simple ingredients including:

  • pistachio pudding
  • milk
  • whipped/whipping cream
  • instant coffee *regular or decaf
  • ice
  • pistachios (optional)

🔪 Instructions: How to make Starbucks Pistachio Frappuccino

It's as easy as adding everything to the blender and blending until smooth! And yes, just dump the entire box of the dry pudding into the blender with the other ingredients.

📖 Variations

  • Dairy-free: use soy or almond milk (skip the whipping cream) You can also use Nutriwhip or another dairy-free whipped topping (*I use dairy-free coconut whipped cream in the spray bottle)
  • For a lighter version: skip the whipping cream and use skim milk
  • Coffee: use brewed espresso instead of instant coffee or use decaffeinated coffee
  • Make it green: If your heart is set on making it look green (like Starbucks) then add some green food coloring!
  • Kid friendly: use decaf coffee or simply skip the coffee all together!

🌡️Storing

You can make this recipe ahead (up to 3 days) but you’ll want to store it in the freezer and take it out 20 minutes before serving. You can also store leftovers in the freezer for up to 3 days. I store it in  juice jug (affiliate link) in the freezer.

Ingredients

  • 99 g -box of pistachio pudding (dry mix) (3.5 ounces)
  • 3 cups milk * I use 1% milk
  • ½ cup whipping cream (33-35%)
  • 4 teaspoon instant coffee granules * caffeinated or non caffeinated
  • 3 cups crushed ice

Topping

  • 1 ½ cups whipped cream (about ¾ cup whipping cream- will double in volume) *optional
  • 3 teaspoon piping gel *optional
  • 1 tablespoon white granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pistachios, chopped (approximately) * optional
US Customary - Metric

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients and blend together until smooth.

Topping

  • Beat whipping cream to soft peaks, then add sugar and piping gel (if using)
  • Top with whipped cream and chopped pistachios.

Notes

💭Top Tip
Add piping gel (affiliate link) to stabilize your whipped cream, instead of gelatin. It's so much quicker and easier than waiting for gelatin to "bloom". You simply beat it in at the same time you add the sugar (at soft peaks). It will hold longer than regular whipped cream.

I have only JUST heard about this new SB treat and I've got to try it. I haven't bought a box of pistachio pudding in YEARS but guess what? I somehow have one in the pantry....lol

That cream on the top!! O.M.G. A puffy cloud of amazingness. I love the idea of coffee house drinks made at home. They are always so much better. And less expensive!! Thanks Terri. 🙂

How would this recipe be adjusted to make a hot latte? How much pudding mix? 🙂

Hi Hollie: It's not really intended to be a hot latte. However, if you wanted to try it I would suggest blending the pistachio pudding, milk, whipping cream and instant coffee together in the blender, then warming it up and adding 2.5 cups boiling hot water. You'll need to adjust that to your taste, though, as it may be too weak (just add a little more instant coffee to your preference).
If you try it, I'd love to hear how it turns out! Enjoy..

Haven’t tried the SB version yet, but I think I’ll skip it and give this a go instead.
