If you love strawberry frosting and are looking for an easy way to make delicious Strawberry Whipped Cream Frosting (with jam), this is the recipe you need! Most recipes call for a strawberry puree or use freeze-dried strawberries, but I use strawberry jam because it's sooo much simpler.
This strawberry frosting also uses a quick method to stabilize it (piping gel), as opposed to messing around with time-sensitive gelatin. Stabilizing it allows you to use it to decorate cakes and cupcakes and it won't deflate/flop after a couple of hours in the fridge. It's ideal for any time of year when you want whipped strawberry frosting, but it makes a great frosting for a Valentine's Day cupcake or cake. This recipe was inspired by my 2 Ingredient White Chocolate Whipped Cream Frosting (Ganache) on this site, and pairs well with any cake or cupcake (especially my Chocolate Red Wine Cupcakes!)

🔪Instructions
How to make strawberry whipped cream frosting
Hint: Put the beaters and mixing bowl in the freezer for 15 minutes before making.
- Combine cold whipping cream and powdered sugar in large bowl (or the bowl of a stand mixer)
- Beat with electric mixer or stand mixer (whisk attachment, not paddle) on low until it starts to thicken a little, then turn it up to medium- high speed until soft peaks form.
- Add strawberry jam, piping gel and vanilla extract to the bowl.
- Continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
💭Top tip
Do not overbeat. Pull out the beaters as soon as the peaks are stiff (they do not flop over), it's done!
- Use a piping bag/pastry bag (I used a 1M tip) to decorate cupcakes or frost cake
📖Substitutions & Variations
- Vanilla extract - you can use regular vanilla extract but it does darken the frosting a little
- Strawberry jam- you can use regular jam, but it will be sweeter. You could also use raspberry jam instead (just make sure it's seedless!)
- Whipping cream - also known as heavy cream, should be at least 33%
This strawberry frosting goes great with any cake (strawberry cake, pound cake, angel food cake, white cake, chocolate cake). 🍽Equipment
You can use an electric hand mixer or a stand mixer (affiliate links) for this homemade whipped cream frosting recipe. The stand mixer will take you less time. Be sure to use the whisk attachment, not the paddle attachment, for making whipped cream frosting. I use either, depending on whether I feel like getting out my stand mixer. Because you're not fussing with pureeing strawberries, you do NOT need a food processor!
🌡️Storage
Store leftover or extra strawberry icing in the fridge in a sealed airtight container for up to 3 days. If you let it sit for more than 24 hours, you may want to give it a 30 -45 second whip before frosting with it. It does not stand up well to freezing (it will become runny when defrosted).
❔Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, whipped icing needs to be refrigerated because it contains whipping cream, which is perishable. Therefore, it needs to be stored in the fridge.
Whipped cream frosting will last a few days in the fridge IF you've stabilized it with piping gel or gelatin.
Whipped cream frosting will only last 2-3 hours in the fridge before it deflates. That's why it's important to stabilize it with piping gel or gelatin. It will last 2-3 days in the fridge when it's stabilized.
Although you're not actually using real strawberries, this strawberry whipped cream frosting (with jam) has a natural, fresh strawberry flavor (minus the hassle!) and it's perfect for the strawberry lover in your life! My kids could not get enough of this homemade frosting (with the Chocolate Red Wine Cupcakes (from box mix) I made)!
