Looking for the ultimate party appetizer or snack? This Easy Layered Nacho Dip is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser! My mom's secret recipe is quick, simple, and utterly addictive. Get ready to watch it disappear!

I love it because it's easy, fast, and oh-so addictive! It's also the perfect game day snack, game night snack, or for bringing along to a potluck.
Speaking of easy dips, my Pumpernickel Spinach Dip is also very popular. It's quick and simple to put together and doesn't need to be heated.
Why You'll Love This Layered Nacho Dip Recipe
- No heating required. You don't have worry about keeping this warm or heating it up, so it's great for bringing along to a potluck!
- Addictive. This is so simple, yet soo good that your guests won't be able to get enough!
- Make-ahead. You can make this up to 2 days in advance.
- Only a few ingredients. You only need a few ingredients.
Who needs 7 layers anyway, right?! These 4 layers are just the right amount for this layered nacho dip, it takes less time to make and the flavors enhance each other, rather than competing as they do in some of the multi-layered dips I've tried.
Sometimes less is more and that's definitely the case with this scrumptious dip. When my mom puts this simple cold dip on the table, it's gone in less time than it takes to make it!
🥘Easy Nacho Dip Ingredient Notes
You only need a handful of simple ingredients to make this recipe:

- Shredded Cheese. I use sharp cheddar cheese and shred/grate it on the smaller side holes in the grater.
- Salsa. I use Pace Medium Salsa. This gives the dip a little spicy bit.
- Tortilla Chips. you can use any type of chip for this dip, including corn chips- just make sure they are sturdy enough for dipping. If you're looking for gluten-free tortilla chips, try Que Pasa (by Nature's Path) brand of gluten-free tortilla chips. (affiliate link). My favorite is Tostitos rounds (white corn) because they are thin and crispy, but don't break easily when dipping!

📖Variations & Substitutions
- Cheese - You can use regular or low-fat cheese, a Mexican blend, Monterey Jack, Colby Jack, or pepper jack for a spicier kick. Just be sure to finely grate the cheese for even coverage.
- Cream Cheese- you can use regular, light, or fat-free
- Sour Cream - you can use regular, low-fat, or fat-free sour cream
- Salsa - use your favorite or make homemade Pico De Gallo Salsa.
- Lactose-free- my daughter is lactose intolerant, so we use lactose-free cream cheese and cheese and either lactose-free Greek yogurt or this vegan cashew "sour cream in place of sour cream
- Spicy -for a spicier kick, use habanero salsa or add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the sour cream mixture.
- Add-ins: Avocados, guacamole, jalapenos, black olives, black beans, ground beef, corn
🔪How to make Layered Nacho Dip: Step-by-Step

- Step 1: Beat cream cheese and sour cream together until smooth. Spread evenly in the bottom of a 9X13 baking dish (preferably glass). Spread salsa evenly over the cream cheese and sour cream layer.

- Step 2: Sprinkle on green onions, spreading evenly.

- Step 3: Top with grated cheese, spreading evenly over green onion (be sure to grate cheese on smaller grating/shredding). Sprinkle a few green onions on top, if desired. Serve with tortilla chips.
Recipe Tips
- Smooth & Creamy Base: Ensure your cream cheese is fully softened before mixing to avoid lumps. Let it sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before beating it with sour cream.
- Even Layering: Spread each layer evenly using an offset spatula or the back of a spoon to create a balanced bite in every scoop.
- Finely Grated Cheese: Use the small holes of the grater to finely shred the cheese. This helps it distribute evenly and meld with the other layers.
- Chill for Best Flavor: Let the dip sit in the fridge for at least 1 hour before serving to enhance flavors.
- Garnish for Visual Appeal: Sprinkle extra green onions, diced tomatoes, or black olives for added color and texture.
- Best Chips for Dipping: Use sturdy tortilla chips or scoop-style chips to hold the layers without breaking.
- Prevent Sogginess: If serving later, wait to add green onions and cheese until just before serving.
🌡️Storing Layered Nacho Dip
Leftover dip can be stored in an airtight container for up to 4 days. If you are just storing it overnight, you can simply cover it in plastic wrap.
These ingredients don't stand up to freezing.
🥗What to serve with Nacho Dip
This nacho dip is fantastic on its own, but it's even better as part of a complete appetizer spread. Add a hot and cheesy dimension with my Chile Con Queso. For a burst of flavor, serve this dip with a side of my homemade Pico de Gallo Salsa Recipe (shown). And give people a lighter option with this Cowboy Caviar Dip!

Slow Cooker Sweet and Sour Meatballs are perfect for game day as well. Perogy pizza also goes hand in hand with dip!
While I'm a huge fan of melty, cheesy nachos, this cold layered dip offers a refreshing and convenient alternative, perfect for potlucks or when you don't want to turn on the oven.
Plus, you don't have to worry about heating it up. You can make it in advance, then throw it in the fridge and bring it along to a potluck or game day party!

I'm not gonna lie.... I love game day food even more than I love the game, whatever game that may be. And I believe that's probably the case with more people than would admit. Nacho Dip is a great contribution to the game day menu because it is a breeze to throw together and you really can't go wrong with it.
This easy dip is also vegetarian so you satisfy those that don't eat meat and it's gluten-free (you just have to make sure you find a gluten-free nacho/chips to serve it with.)

Superbowl is coming and hockey season is in full swing, so there are lots of opportunities to make this nacho dip! But I truly love it anytime - we'll make it for our Friday night movie night or while we're having a family night playing board games or just hanging out.
And it's great for taking along to a potluck! I use a 9X13 glass pan with a lid so it's very portable!

My kids love this dip. I just mix taco seasoning to the cream cheese/sour cream layer and use some lettuce to hide the green onions from my picky eaters.
Terri Gilson
Glad to hear they love it, Shannon! Taco seasoning is a great idea 🙂
