Moxie's is one of my fave places to eat! And when I'm trying to be good (meaning, not having a burger and fries) their Grilled Steak Salad with Goat Cheese and Clamato Dressing is my 'go-to' order!
It's healthy, yet meaty, filling, and delicious. But it's still light dinner and relatively Weight Watchers friendly. And because I love this salad so much, I have created a VERY Weight Watchers Friendly and Moxie's copycat Grilled Steak Salad with Feta & Clamato Dressing recipe. So, if you're looking for a healthy steak salad, you'll love this one! Try it with my healthy grilled corn!

Grilling season is upon us and so is Father's Day. And if there's one thing Dad likes, it's "meaty"! So, if you want to make Dad happy and help him (and you) stay healthy and on track, make him this Grilled Steak Salad. And if you're following the WW program, it will keep you happy to at only 7 weight watchers points.
💭Moxie's restaurant
If you're not familiar with Moxie's, it's a Canadian restaurant chain. And if you're ever visiting Canada, it's worth checking out a Moxie's restaurant, which is in most major Canadian cities (there are 6 locations in Calgary). I'd say it is pretty comparable to the American chain "Original Joe's."
I have been meaning to try to replicate this Grilled Steak Salad recipe for years. So, when I googled it and saw that others had tried to create a similar Clamato salad dressing, I was intrigued. I then made my own adjustments and this is the result! Although I'm not sure memory serves me correctly (I haven't had this salad in a few years) and it may not be the exact copycat recipe, it's still darn good! My family loved this healthy steak salad and didn't have their own memories of Moxie's steak salad and had nothing to compare it to, and they thought it tasted great!
🥘Ingredients
For this healthy salad recipe, you'll need:
- steak *I use Ribeye or New York
- spring mix
- red onion
- croutons
- grape tomatoes
- feta cheese * I use light feta
- Clamato juice
- red wine vinegar
- basil
- minced garlic
- grated onion
- Dijon mustard
- black pepper
- salt
- olive oil
📖Variations & Substitutions
- Spring mix - you can substitute romaine lettuce or any leafy greens, or use baby spinach
- Grape tomatoes- you can substitute sweet cherry tomatoes
- Steak - use a good quality cut of steak like Ribeye steak, New York Strip steak, flat iron steaks, flank steak, or skirt steak. You could use tip steak but it won't be as tender.
💭 Difference between Feta and Goat Cheese
The excellent thing about this grilled beef salad is that it's a hearty salad, but has less fat and calories than the original Moxie's salad and only 7 Weight Watchers Smart Points (using regular feta). I use light feta cheese, which brings down the points, but you could further reduce the points with fat-free feta cheese. But even if you use regular feta instead of goat cheese (which Moxie's uses) there's still a pretty substantial difference in fat and calories. Although goat cheese is super dreamy creamy and I love it, you can use it, but it's going to bump up the points. Here is a breakdown:
Goat Cheese | Feta Cheese (regular) | |
---|---|---|
Calories | 364 | 264 |
Total Fat | 30 | 21 |
Saturated Fat | 21 | 15 |
Trans Fat | 0 | 0 |
Cholesterol | 79 | 89 |
Sodium | 515 | 1116 |
Total Carbohydrates | 3 | 4 |
Dietary Fibre | 0 | 0 |
Sugar | 3 | 4 |
Protein | 22 | 14 |
Feta is a bit tangier and saltier, but it's still really delicious in this salad. And scientific research has shown that feta contains friendly bacteria (similar to yogurt) that makes antibiotics that help kill Listeria – a food poisoning-causing bacteria.
🔢WW Points
I'm not sure what else they put in the original Moxie's Salad to bump up the calories but according My Fitness Pal, it has 610 calories and 38g of fat per serving and is 20 points (if you eat the entire thing) compared to my recipe at 7 WW points. However, if you order the salad with the dressing on the side and only add a little (which is what I do at Moxie's), it will obviously reduce the smart points.
👪 Serving Size

🍽 Equipment
For this summer salad recipe, you'll need a grill. You can use an outdoor (gas grill or charcoal grill) or an indoor grill, or a stovetop grill (affiliate links) . Alternatively, you can fry the steak in a grilling pan or skillet. You can also use a meat thermometer (instant-read thermometer) (affiliate links) to check for doneness.
🌡️Storage
Store the steak separately from the salad ingredients, in an airtight container. And store the dressing in a separate container.
Even if this grilled steak salad is not an exact Moxie's Steak Salad Copycat, not only is it close, it's really delicious! And grilled salads are ideal during BBQ season because you can spend time outside and avoid heating up your house. Plus, grilled steak just tastes that much better.
So if you are looking for the best steak salad recipe, give this one a try! I'm sure it will become your new favorite! And if you are in search of other grilled salads to make for Father's Day (without turning on your oven) that you and Dad will love, then try my Cajun Avocado Mango Chicken Salad (shown) and my Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad (with Clancy's Caesar Salad Dressing). These are my favorite summer salads!

Had this salad at Moxies last week. Had to try this recipe and it SLAPPED. Will absolutely make again. Did some quick pickled onions to go with it and it was the best part of my week. Thank you for this?

Hi Julia,
I'm so glad you enjoyed it and even made a fan out of a clamato hater in the process! 🙂

I tried this recipe today and OMG! It’s even better than the actual moxies steak salad! I also made some goat cheese crostinis with parsley and garlic, it was the perfect add on! I also decided to do my steak on the stove top with garlic, thyme, rosemary and butter! To spice it up a little bit I added some goat cheese chunks into my salad! It was excellent thank you so much for the dressing recipe!
