Just because something is easy, doesn’t mean you don’t need a recipe for it. I can’t tell you how many times someone has said to me, “oh it’s soo easy – just throw this together with that…”

Right. I’ll just file that away with the other 7 million ingredients and recipes I have floating around in my head. But seriously, this Skor Bar Dessert is just that- so easy that you don’t even need a recipe. But I’m going to give you one anyway.
Skor bar recipe:
I first tried Skor bar dessert at a work potluck about 20 years ago. And although I was never a huge fan of Skor bars on their own, put them in a dessert with more chocolate and whipped cream and WOW! Skor bars are a game changer. Softening up just enough that the toffee flavor melds with the other chocolatey ingredients, Skor bars add a welcome contrast to a dessert with a smoother, trifle- like consistency.
I recall asking my coworker for this recipe and she did just that – told me how easy it was. And since I obviously couldn’t remember the ingredients from that long ago, I guessed. I knew it contained chocolate things, whipped cream and Skor bars, of course. But trust me, this is a really good guess. In fact, it’s one of the most delicious guesses I’ve ever created! And since I don’t want you to have to guess, I’m writing the recipe here.
Easy Dessert Recipes
If there is one thing I’ve learned in my culinary life, it’s that you cannot rely on memory for recipes. That is, if you want to produce consistent results. Even if I create a recipe one week and post it the next, I cannot remember exactly how much of what ingredient I used. I need to record it as I go, along with the variations I’ve made while testing it. Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way.
Skor bar vs. Heath Bar
In the recipe I note that you can substitute Health bars for Skor bars, so you’re probably wondering what the difference is? Well, Skor is a candy bar (or ‘chocolate bar’ as we prefer to call them in Canada) produced by The Hershey Company. Although it was first marketed in the United States in 1981, it didn’t come to Canada until 1983. It was originally intended as the competition for the Heath bar produced by the Heath Company (and later Leaf Candy company.) However, in 1996, Hershey bought Leaf and produced the Heath bar under the Hershey name.
The Skor bar consists of a thin slab of butter toffee covered in a milk chocolate coating, but is slightly thinner than the Heath bar. “Skör” is Swedish for “brittle” and the crown that appears in the product’s logo is identical to that found in the Swedish national emblem of Tre Kronor (Three crowns). But both bars are made by Hershey; so why do they need two bars? Apparently it’s because the Heath bar calls itself an “English Toffee Bar” while the Skor is more of a “Crisp Butter Toffee.” There is a slight difference in taste. You can read more about that HERE.

So when I get asked for my easy potluck dessert recipes, I always reply “it’s on the blog!” (or “coming soon to the blog”) because recipes, no matter how simple they are, are meant to be written down!
Skor Bar Dessert
- 1 300 g chocolate loaf cake or pound cake
*f you can't find this, you can use a defrosted frozen McCain's deep and delicious cake with the frosting scraped off or buy chocolate cupcakes and break them up
* I always have leftover cake bits in my freezer so that's what I use
- 8 whole Skor candy bars, (reserve 2 for garnish) *Can substitute Heath bars (see NOTES)
- 3 cups whipping cream
- 3 tbsp white granulated sugar
- 2 - 40 g boxes of instant chocolate pudding
- 4 cups milk 1 or 2%
- 8 oz pkg of cream cheese softened
- Break up chocolate cake and add to the bottom of a 9X13 pan.
- Beat milk and chocolate pudding powder together until set.
- Then beat softened cream cheese and chocolate pudding together
- Spread cream cheese pudding mixture evenly over broken cake bits.
- Break up the Skor bars into small pieces(*I put the chocolate bars in a ziplock and hit them with a hammer to break them up)
- Sprinkle 6 broken/chopped Skor bars over pudding/cream cheese layer.
- Beat whipping cream to soft peaks and add white granulated sugar. Beat to stiff peaks.
- Spread whipped cream over Skor layer.
- Crush up 2 more score bars (using the same method as above) and sprinkle over whipped cream. * do this closer to serving so it has more crunchiness
- Refrigerate for minimum of 6 hours or overnight. Serve.
